METAL CHIMNEY CAPS

METAL CHIMNEY CAPS KEEP OUT MOISTURE

Is your chimney falling apart? While cement caps are a common repair for cracked chimneys, its rare they last longer than 2 years. This is because cement does not have the ability to stay strong against expansion and movement. Steel does. Therefore we often recommend putting in a metal caps, which provide long term durability without sacrificing style or beauty!

The custom formed, galvanized steel caps are available in different paint or pre-finished options. And we offer stainless steel as well. With metal caps you can't go wrong.

FAQs

You may have questions. These are some we're often asked:

Water is infiltrating the cap or mortar joints, expanding and contracting, and causing the brick to spaul or fall apart. Typically this is caused by cracks in a concrete cap and can be remedied with a steel cap over the existing concrete cap.

Yes, having a custom made steel chimney cap made will drain the water off the lid of your chimney. They can be made in galvanized steel, pre-finshed painted steel, or stainless steel.

There are typically 3 places a chimney can leak near a chimney. One is from the flashing system around the base of the chimney, a second is through the mortar joints of the chimney, and the last is through the lid or top of the chimney. An inspection of your attic and the chimney on your roof will help one of our estimators determine which is the cause and what solution is best for your home.

If your chimney is not venting anything, and is not used for an active fireplace, then most likely it is just a hole in your roof that can be eliminated. The location of your chimney may also play a part whether that is possible also.

We do not advise using any false stone on your chimney. It is very difficult to flash into your roofing system, and we will not warranty any chimney flashings tied into a false stone chimney. There are vinyl stone alternatives that are perfect for these applications.

Tuckpointing is the process of removing and replacing deteriorated, damaged and missing mortar in between brick, block, stone and other masonry surfaces.

If a masonry chimney is not maintenced and water infiltrates the mortar joints or concrete cap then a re-build may be necessary. If the problem is addressed before major brick deterioration, then a tuckpoint and steel cap may take the place of a complete rebuild.
