Terrible Ways to Fix a Roof – Dumb Things People Do

There are some truly TERRIBLE ways to Fix a Roof.

We get it. Roof repair is not something people look forward to spending their hard-earned cash on.

Who wouldn’t want to do something fun instead?

The thing is though, trying to save and skimp on roof repair is one of the dumbest and costliest things people do.

Here are some TERRIBLE WAYS to fix a roof and DUMB THINGS people do:

  • First of all, it’s DANGEROUS! Even professional roofers with imaginary wings and a bag full of professional tricks can have accidents! For a homeowner, just climbing a ladder in itself poses risk. Not to mention, WALKING and WORKING on top of the house. JUST DON’T do it!

Most homeowners don’t know the proper way to get on a ladder or on the roof. They get up there and shouldn’t be up there. AND THEY GET HURT!  And the ripple effect of that is costly! They are out of commission. They miss work and have lost wages. They may also have medical bills to pay. Due to injuries, they miss out on activities.

And guess what? The roof still needs repair and they STILL have to PAY for it!

  • Patching holes themselves – Water travels. So does the damage from it. So, getting up on the roof and tarring the obvious area of disrepair may actually not be fixing the problem at all! It’s not the spot that needs the repair. PROBLEM NOT CORRECTED, though money and time were spent.

And guess what? The roof still needs repair and they STILL have to PAY for it!

  • Using silicon “band-aids” – Patching whole areas that should be replaced with new wood and new shingles with SILICONE!!  This won’t last. It’s not a magic fix! If a roof is old and needs to be replaced, replace it!  Topping it with a silicone band-aid is a temporary solution.  It is only spending extra time, money, and effort.

And guess what? The roof still needs repair and they STILL have to PAY for it!

  • Removing ice.   During the winter, after Mr. Freeze has blown through the neighborhood, people try to fix the leaking caused by ice damming by removing the ice. They usually try to get the ice dam off in the wrong way and damage the shingles in the process.

And guess what? The roof still needs repair (and maybe even more in this case) and they STILL have to PAY for it!

The smart way to FIX this problem is to take preventative measures, to begin with! If you know your roof is prone to ice buildup, get a roof rake to remove the snow as it falls. This will prevent the thaw and freeze cycle that creates ice dams. Roof rakes are also designed NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE.  (A light bulb should be going off in your head about now.)

  • Not being able to identify the true problem. This wastes time, money, and energy in the process.

And guess what? The roof still needs repair and they STILL have to PAY for it!

So, while we GET that roof repair is not something people look forward to spending their hard-earned cash on, we hope you now GET why you should call a pro to fix a roof! Don’t be DUMB and DUMBER!

It’s actually cost-effective. Calling the professionals for an expertly configured plan will minimize additional expense and damage.
